Last year, the Lake Havasu City Council chose to use $1 million out of $8.5 million in federal assistance provided through the American Rescue Plan Act to award grant money to local organizations.

After receiving 19 applications totaling close to $2.4 million, each organization that applied was asked to reduce the amount requested by 20%.

The city sought proposals that addressed issues with food, housing, medical services, agency services, childcare, senior and adult care, senior services, or any other social services needed in town.

At a Feb. 28 meeting, the City Council awarded the money to different organizations after a vote of 6-0 to award money to 11 applicants.

Grants recipients are River Cities United Way ($161,856), Faith and Grace ($157,280), Impact 928 ($141,000), MIKID Mentally Ill Kids in Distress ($130,168), The Clothes Closet ($128,000), Grace Episcopal Church ($72,240), Child & Family Resources ($40,239), Women With Willpower ($40,000), HAVEN Family Resource Center ($40,000), and Covenant Church Lake Havasu ($39,216).

Today’s News-Herald will explore each of the organizations and proposals that were awarded grant money from Havasu in an 10-part series beginning today.
