A Lake Havasu City man was arrested on Thanksgiving, after police reportedly found him to be driving while impaired - And that offense may be the least of what he’s charged with after he was confronted by officers.
According to the report, a motorist was traveling behind 34-year-old Kevin T. Ellingburgh as they traveled on State Route 95 from I-40 to Havasu. The witness contacted police dispatchers when he reportedly observed Ellingburgh’s vehicle, a white Kia Stinger, to be weaving in its lane at fluctuating speeds. According to the police report, the witness suspected that Ellingburgh may have been operating his vehicle while impaired.
The witness reportedly told police that Ellingburgh had stopped at a gas station on Showplace Avenue, and officers soon found Ellingburgh at the scene.
According to the report, Ellingburgh provided officers with a false surname when initially questioned. Officers described Ellingburgh as possibly being under the influence of narcotics while speaking with police. Upon further questioning, Ellingburgh admitted to giving a false name due to a felony warrant for his arrest. He also allegedly told officers that he had consumed marijuana and possible prescription painkillers earlier in the day.
Officers arrested Ellingburgh at the scene, and placed him against their patrol cruiser before searching his pockets. According to the report, Ellingburgh leaned against the hood of the vehicle and began to fall asleep during that search.
According to the report, eight prescription pills were found in Ellingburgh’s pocket. A later search of Ellingburgh’s vehicle reportedly yielded a clear container filled with several bonds and quantities of cash, as well as a small case containing two white rock-like objects, as well as 10 grams of suspected cocaine. Police also allegedly found a false ID card in Ellingburgh’s vehicle during that search.
The alleged drugs were sent to a professional lab for further testing. Ellingburgh was ultimately booked into custody on charges including identity theft, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, rendering false information to law enforcement, DUI and possession of dangerous drugs.
According to police, Ellingburgh’s original felony warrant, issued Nov. 7, was in reference to original charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Court records show that Ellingburgh was released from custody Monday, on $10,000 bond.
