Lake Havasu City will require face masks in public starting Friday, according to Mayor Cal Sheehy.
The order goes into effect on Friday and lasts until July 27.
Havasu's mandate follows similar proclamations made this week by the cities of Bullhead City and Kingman.
Sheehy cited the region's sharp increase in coronavirus cases as well as the large crowds expected in Havasu for the holiday weekend.
"Within Mohave County and Lake Havasu City, we are experiencing a growing community spread that increases risk to the well-being of citizens and poses potential strains on the healthcare facilities and workers in our community," he said in a news release.
Everyone over 6 years old is required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth at any business that serves the public within city limits, according to his proclamation. Face masks are not required at businesses that don't interact with the public as long as social distancing guidelines are followed. Exceptions are also being made for religious ceremonies, at designated seating areas in restaurant,s and outdoor exercise activities.
Sheehy asks that residents avoid calling 911 to report noncompliance with the mask order.
Sheehy had faced increased pressure to issue the proclamation, including from some of his counterparts on the City Council. Councilwoman Michele Lin said she had been in contact with Sheehy about mask requirements and was frustrated that an order wasn't issued earlier.
“I am, personally one councilmember who believes that it absolutely should be mandatory," she said on Wednesday afternoon, prior to Sheehy's order. "I think that everybody should be wearing them. With the amount of people coming into down we are going to double our population. So to protect our own citizens we need to do the right thing and everybody should be mandated to wear them.”
As recently as Tuesday, Sheehy had said he preferred prioritizing community education over any kind of mandates. "The situation is very fluid," he said on Tuesday. "It has been my stance from the beginning that people are strongly encouraged to physically distance themselves, or to wear masks if they can't physically distance."
On Wednesday, Sheehy said the order was needed in response to the influx of visitors and rise in cases. “The health and safety of our residents is my primary concern," he said in the news release. " I thank all of our residents who responded to our educational efforts over the last few weeks. This action is needed now in response to the influx of visitors and the rise in cases.”

Actually the masks to nothing. If you can breathe in and out then they are ineffective. Our fear of this so called virus has enlarged it's reality and spread it everywhere. This hyper flu was manipulated and spread to hit the vulnerable or those with a certain genetic code and nothing is going to keep it from them. But most of us will be fine. The shattering of our nation, the decimation of schools, social gatherings, any joy we might experience in touching or being together has been destroyed right before our eyes. Continually wearing a mask of any kind in the heat will make people physically and mentally ill. I know of many who tested positive for this that tested again negative. None of the tests are accurate and it makes me wonder how man of the deaths are as well. Think what you want, but I would rather be dead than live in a world filled with fear. If you think wearing a simple mask is going to end this you are living a delusion. This is just the beginning. If we continue to live in fear and follow "their" rules (a higher up group of people who are running the show), we will lose our democracy and our individual freedom. There a parallels between the mask debate and the gun control debate, and it all boils down to who defines 'freedom.' "Not wearing a mask goes against my freedom." "Carrying a gun is my freedom."
Let's not get into the gun debate. But where does someone's freedom end and another's freedom begin? I also hear this same type of thing about the national healthcare debate.
Where does your freedom of not wearing a mask end, and where does my freedom of staying healthy start? Where does your freedom of carrying a firearm start and the freedom of me not wanting to get shot start? Or my kids getting shot in school? These are just examples.

the local narrative, warrants asking. I think it can be answered simply. You have the freedom to own and carry a gun, you don't have the freedom to shoot someone at random with it. Similarly, you are free to purchase a car with a speedometer that goes up to 160 mph, you don't have the freedom to drive it at that speed. The same is applicable to the mask, you have the freedom to die from Covid-19, you don't have the freedom to take someone else with you because of negligence. Guns have nothing to do with your freedom . I had 13 guns , sold them all but I still Have the same freedoms you do . You don’t have the right to smoke on an airplane because it infringes on my right to breath clean air . Wearing a mask is no different than wearing a seatbelt or not smoking inside. Most insurances cover based on the drg and icd9 codes, and have contracts in place and pay a set amount. Not sure if they have one already to use for covid diagnosis. But also people think hospitals make a killing, that is untrue. They get paid a contracted amount and the rest is written off. Insurances catch a big break and they aren't paying out nearly what you think they are.

Their overall conclusion is that a national mask mandate could slow the rate of infections while preventing a 5% GDP loss caused by more lockdowns. Ripcord. I've been masked up from the beginning. I am required by my work to wear one and get my temp taken every day before entering the building. If you call off sick you need a 14 day waiting period and M.D. clearance to return. We're in Health care so we wash our hands 24/7. I glove up, mask up, wash up, lather, rinse, repeat. No lives lost are acceptable to me when it is preventable. That's a number for you, a big "0" is my answer.

It's actually pretty simple folks.
The whole idea behind everyone wearing masks is to slow down the spreading of this virus. Masks are not going to completely stop this virus but they can limit the transmission between people. Slowing down the virus is supposed to give the medical professionals time to develop a vaccine. In the meantime masks can slow down how fast and how many get infected. Not everyone that gets infected will need to go to the hospital, but for those that do, slowing down the number of patients will help with medical supplies, number of doctor and nurses and available beds. Can anyone tell me why home depot and Lowe's get to stay opento the public? Should only allow licensed contractors to enter. I have to get some materials there quite often and it is always packed with people. They close down other business with not near as much traffic. Just thinking out loud.
Yesman123 It's just because the governor's orders to close businesses only targeted places such as bars, gyms, and movie theaters. I think these particular businesses were targeted because the recent influx in covid cases have been primarily in the younger generations (people in their 20's and 30's), and it is believed the younger crowd was simply not taking this seriously enough; the governor targeted businesses that attract younger folks.

If I go to home depot I can but a pallet of 14/2 nm cable made by southwire an American company. It is the same wire sold at the supply houses here. Home depot will shop the order and get you the best price available. They do this on a lot of material. If your husband did not know this after being in the business for 28 years let him know could save him thousands a year.

Contact tracing on existing infections showed a larger number of common infections at the businesses that were restricted in this last order. There is a database that holds all of the collected data and it is being used to make these decisions. High risk businesses were the first to be shutdown.
If people don't get it together and they don't like the current list of businesses that are shutdown, they sure aren't going to like the next batch of businesses to be shutdown.

ICU runs at near capacity all year in all hospitals across the country, 130,000 from Huflu (seasonal influenza death rate almost zero) is a blown up figure and you know it. I'm in the high risk group and know that nothing short of a N95 and higher rated mask will protect you, cloth mask is a placebo just to make you feel "good and safe". It is important because most of the masks available to consumers (pretty much all masks except for the N95 medical-grade masks) do not protect the individual wearing the mask as much as the mask-wearer is protecting the people around him/her. Most of these masks protect the individual wearing them from only about 70% of everything around them, but prevents that individual from spreading about 95% of their own germs; these masks are better at preventing things from getting out of the mask than they are at preventing things from coming into the mask. So the mask-wearer is preventing approximately 95% of their transmission but is only protected from about 70% of the surrounding environment/people. So the person wearing the mask is still susceptible to about 30% of whatever the people around them are spreading, but the people around the mask-wearer who are not wearing masks only have a 5% risk of catching anything from the mask-wearer. This is why it is a civic duty to wear the masks and why it is selfish if you simply 'don't want to wear one.'
You could have a high-risk individual (i..e someone with asthma) who takes every precaution they can; they can social distance, wear a mask, and try their best to quarantine. However, let's say they need to make a trip to the grocery store. They mask up and do everything in their power to try not to get sick knowing this could affect them far more than the general population or that they could die from this virus. However, when they get to the store, they notice about 50% of the patrons aren't wearing masks. They decide the necessity of food is dire and have no choice, head into the store, and 6 days later start showing symptoms. They did literally everything they could possibly do to prevent getting covid, but because half of the store was not wearing masks, this high-risk individual got sick anyways. I personally, would not want the guilt hanging over my head that my negligence could possibly cost an American life, simply because a mask is somewhat inconvenient.
Also good to know, scientists have discovered this virus is most likely transmitted via airborne transmission. Yes, you can still get it from touching contaminated surfaces, or being sneezed on, but airborne transmission is what is believed to be the largest form of transmission (airborne transmission is primarily attributed to the actions of talking/vocalizing, singing etc.). Scientists discovered that in an enclosed environment, the virus if airborne, can linger in the air for up to 4 hours. This is why masks are one of the best preventative measures out there especially in buildings.

Why do people seem to want to ignore that people are getting infected and dying from this? The number of deaths in the last 4 months from Covid-19 is more than 4 times the number of deaths from the entire 2018-2019 flu year (which was noted as one of the worst in decades). How many more people, especially those that you might know, must die before people finally believe this is real and not some political stunt? What is the number? There are countries abroad who absolutely hate the U.S. and would love nothing more than to expose Covid-19 as some fictional virus created by the U.S. for political gain. Instead, they are fighting for their lives because they lack the advanced health care system that we have. This is a world-wide event. This is virus. It is contagious. It spreads by transmission. The transmission can be reduced or eliminated by the use of masks. People have been wearing masks to slow the spread of infection since before the Egyptians were doing it thousands of years ago. Where did you get your info about masks not helping? It is a small thing that everyone can do to help curb the spread. I also wear a mask out of respect to the people who are exposed to god knows how many people each day at their jobs. It has nothing to do with being a liberal, a conservative, or a socialist. Top doctors in our country are telling us the importance of mask wearing , especially now that the virus is coming back for round 2. Perhaps, if we all wore masks sooner we wouldn’t be dealing with a round 2!

If you would ever read anyone else's comments or responses to you, you would know I responded to you in a previous article detailing out that the masks are not a cure-all; we will see some spikes no matter what, but that doesn't mean the masks do nothing. They slow the spread (they don't completely prevent the spread, the slow it down and only prevent it to a certain degree), and this is of huge importance because slowing the spread will help us save at least some American lives, prevent our hospitals from being overrun, and prevent businesses from having to close. One little thing, literally one minor inconvenience of wearing a mask in public, is all it takes to prevent this from killing a much higher number of people and destroying our economy.

Seriously? The last time I looked at the stats we had 88 cases and several deaths in the 0-19 year old bracket. 4 weeks ago, Havasu had zero 0-9 year old cases and now there are 45. I am elderly, and compromised, and stay home unless I need groceries or Dr. Appt. and wear a mask unless in my own home. Even then, 'visitors' push past me in the grocery store, no mask, and no telling what or whom they have been exposed to. Yes, ALL should wear a mask and respect the local population.

Here are some peer-reviewed articles from a few science journals. These are not in any way media related, and are purely scientific. This presents methodology and results related to how speech,coughing, sneezing etc. allows for transmission of aerosols (which can contain any virus or bacteria you are infected with), and how masks reduce that transmission. Masks help with any transmissible disease that can be airborne.
It is a disgrace to scientists and their amazing work for you to be spewing lies with no factual proof to back up your claims. Take the time to read an actual scientific article and please, PLEASE rebut it if you believe you can. I would be interested to see how you could possibly prove, with scientific methods and analyses, that these other real scientists are wrong or inaccurate.
